Lonely, scared, declawed and missing some teeth having to scrounge for food and shelter on the streets. Just trying to survive. Then trapped and sent to the worst animal control facility in the U.S. and ending up on \u2018death row\u2019. Not many get out of there alive.<\/p>\n<p>THIS is what appears to have happened to Callie, an abandoned and neglected senior 12 year old cat.<\/p>\n<p>Then along came Debbie Smith, a true animal lover and advocate, who was willing to foster this lonely, frightened senior kitty.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCallie was on Death Row. From what was on her thread, her owner threw her out in the street, with bleeding gums, missing teeth and declawed.<\/p>\n<p>And then the dreaded NYCACC trapped her. She was suppose to be killed last week. But because of a computer glitch, she didn\u2019t die. They posted on her thread, she got a second chance, but she wouldn\u2019t get a third.<\/p>\n<p>She had zero interest. It was sad. She didn\u2019t deserve to be treated like that at her age.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, Debbie wanted to give Callie that second chance and made arrangements to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Callie arrived at her new home on November 1, 2012. After all the hell she had been thru, it was understandable that she was still unsure and leery of her new surroundings. But she eventually came out of her shell as Debbie and her children \u201cwon her over\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Things appeared to be going well until November 8th when Debbie noticed that Callie was losing her appetite and wouldn\u2019t eat anything. The next day (Nov. 9), the same was happening, so Debbie was trying to contact the Rescue Organization (Anjellicle Cats Rescue in NYC) for authorization to take Callie to a vet.<\/p>\n<p>But the rescue organization\u2019s director (or others in authority there) wasn\u2019t very responsive until sometime over the weekend. Evidently there was reluctance on the rescue organization\u2019s part to authorize adequate testing necessary to see what exactly was wrong with Callie.<\/p>\n<p>Callie\u2019s condition was starting to get worse. Finally, an authorization was granted for a vet to do tests on Callie on Monday, November 12th. The tests were done but results wouldn\u2019t be know until later the next day, November 13th.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, things got worse for little Callie. Miss Callie wasn\u2019t able to last till the test results were known and any treatments could be done.<\/p>\n<p>Debbie on Callie\u2019s Facebook page:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>11\/13\/12<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDear Friends, this morning Callie was having difficulty breathing. We rushed her to the vet and enroute, Callie died in Megan\u2019s arms. She was a precious, little soul, who touched my heart when I saw her picture.<\/p>\n<p>A Death Row baby, who didn\u2019t understand why she was there. She came to live with us on, November 1st, 2012. And 12 days later, she left us to go to the Bridge. Callie, I hope you know how much you were loved and were happy here.<\/p>\n<p>You, little girl, were such a pleasure. And you brought much happiness to our home.<\/p>\n<p>God Bless you, Miss Callie. We love you. Very, Very much.<\/p>\n<p>Mom, Megan and Donnie\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those of us who have been following her story have been devastated to hear this sad turn of events for Callie. Myself, I am truly heartbroken.<\/p>\n<p>Miss Callie is no longer with us, but she also left a bit of a legacy that all of us can help to continue. And that is to continue support for having a No Kill Nation. So no longer will those like Miss Callie be put in harm\u2019s way EVER again. Callie remains an enchanting little angel who made the most of her time being cared for in a loving home. Cats are more practical than we; they can make a life out of hours. Your choice to adopt completed that for her. In the end, adoption is really a matter of the heart rather than a piece of paper.
